Insurance for automatic motorbikes

Automatics and twist-and-go bikes are often cheap to insure — small engines, sensible commuters — but cover and price vary a lot. Get a few quotes from specialists rather than taking the first number.

UK motorcycle specialists riders often compare include Bennetts, Carole Nash, Devitt and Lexham (strong on scooters and small-capacity twist-and-go), plus comparison sites that quote several insurers at once. In Northern Ireland the same GB specialists generally cover you, and local brokers are worth a call too.

  • Insurance group, security (a good lock/tracker) and where you park all move the price more than the bike itself.
  • Passed on an automatic and riding automatic-only? Make sure the policy matches your licence category.
  • The cheapest quote isn’t always the best cover — check excess, theft and any modifications.

The names below are starting points to compare, not endorsements. We’re not insurance advisers — read the policy.
