Learning & testing in Northern Ireland
NI does things a little differently from Great Britain — driver and rider testing here is run by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA), not the DVSA, and instructors must be on the DVA’s Approved Motorcycle Instructor (AMI) register.
- Find an instructor: use the DVA Approved Motorcycle Instructor register to find approved CBT and training near you.
- Theory test centres in NI are at Ballymena, Belfast, Londonderry, Newry, Omagh and Portadown — book through nidirect.
- The full path: CBT → motorcycle theory test → practical Module 1 and Module 2 at a DVA test centre. The same automatic-only rule applies — test on a clutchless bike and your licence is restricted to automatics.
